The Team |
| The
origins of Team Piston Broke are a little hazy, but this is about as close
as I can remember. Team Piston Broke was set up in 2004 to take part in
the Staples2Naples Banger Rally.
Rob stumbled upon the Staples2Naples website early in 2004 and decided to sign up there and then, forgetting that he hadn't actually asked anyone else if they were up for it. He promptly forgot all about it and went to bed to sleep off whatever it was that he had been drinking. Upon realising somewhat later in the year what he had let himself in for, Rob tricked his brother Cliff into agreeing to navigating on the rally. Cliff had been in Portugal for almost a month watching Euro 2004 and getting thoroughly plastered, so when Rob picked him up from the airport he was looking slightly jaded. "Fancy sitting in the back of a £100 banger reading a map while I drive it to Naples, Cliff?". "Yeah, no worries. When is it?" Easy! A subsequent trip to the pub saw the team name decided and Cliff suggesting his mate Iain as co-driver (who was again surprisingly easy to convince), and Team Piston Broke was born. For 2005, we are fortunate to be joined by Tony "2-bags", Rob's mate and ex-boss, and seasoned driver of poor quality old cars. |
